چکیده

This article describes a system that is able to perform online sound localization, separation and speaker recognition for the purpose of channel assignment in teleconferencing scenarios. The assigned channels are then virtually synthesized to different positions around the listener by a conference server using Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs), which enables the user to identify active speakers in an audio conference. Intelligibility of communication is also increased by making use of the cocktail party effect which describes how a user can concentrate on one specific participant, even if there are more simultaneously active speakers. To support regular telephone systems, we focus in particular on compatibility to existing Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure by using standardized protocols and central signal processing. Both traditional telephone devices and software clients are put into one heterogeneous conference. While the conference server transmits the down-mixed, single-channel conference signal to regular phones, the software clients can receive a stereosignal enabling full 3D audio.

Measurements of Sound Localization Performance and Speech Quality in the Context of 3D Audio Conference Calls

Teleconferencing solutions supporting 3D audio have two advantages. First, the talkers can be identified easily by locating their position in the virtual acoustic environment. Second, if multiple persons talk at the same time, humans can focus on the talker of their choice by taking advantage of the cocktail party effect. However, 3D audio lowers the speech quality by decreasing loudness and ad...

An on-line conference system for exchange in 3D graphics and utilizing "screen sharing" technology

2. Methods Our system enables two or more doctors in remote places to operate one 3D medical image simultaneously by using PC's screen sharing technology. Two or more Clients PC share the screen of PC called "Display server." The screen of the Display server and that of the Client PC completely synchronize. Our system is using XVL[1] for 3D medical image. Furthermore, because each conference is...

SOUND HUNTER Developing a Navigational HRTF - Based Audio Game for People with Visual

In this thesis, I propose a framework for designing 3D-based audio-only games in which all navigation is based on perceiving the 3D-audio, as opposed to relying on other navigational aids or imagining the audio as being spatial, where additional sounds may be added later on in the development process. To test the framework, a game named Sound Hunter was developed in an iterative process togethe...

Video conference Android platform by your mobile phone

Video conferencing is a visual and audio communications technology dedicated to Smartphones. It is based on the client-server communication model that this requires many limits since using the server. In this paper, we proposed a new communication model without going through the server (client-client), in addition, this model makes video conference used by mobile multimedia phones. Keywords—vid...

Web-enabled 3D talking avatars based on WebGL and HTML5

We describe a system for plugin-free deployment of 3D talking characters on the web. The system employs the WebGL capabilites of modern web browsers in order to produce real-time animation of speech movements, in synchrony with text-to-speech synthesis, played back using HTML5 audio functionalty. The implementation is divided into a client and a server part, where the server delivers the audio ...
